Brett is "telling" knock-knock jokes to daddy. I'm watching his profile: morning light coming in through the window beside him, blue waffly pyjamas with one button undone, face mere inches above his cereal bowl, spoon in hand and milk on chin.

"Knock knock, who there, daddy?"
"Chicken."
"Chicken who?"
"Chicken Little"
"No, Chicken Little Brett!"
Wild laughter.

"Knock knock, who there, daddy?"
"Boo."
"Boo who?"
"Don't cry!"
More wild laughter.
